Illinois proudly calls itself the "Land of (16th President) Lincoln" and no place is it more prominently on display than in the state capitol Springfield. He was an Illinois state legislator and US congressman before being elected President of the United States and signed the declaraction which abolished slavery and resulted in the US Civil War.
