Media mogul William Randolph Hearst developed what he called "The Ranch" on the central California coast between 1919 and 1947 where he entertained Hollywood stars the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant, the Marx Brothers, Greta Garbo, Buster Keaton, Mary Pickford, Jean Harlow and Clark Gable and other prominents like Calvin Coolidge and Charles Lindbergh. Its opulence was fostered by the enormous art collection with which he adorned it. Today it is a national historic landmark with tours operating daily. In 1941 Orson Welles satirized Hearst and Hearst Castle in the film "Citizen Kane".
